Swinging Safari
Thursday October 5th 8:00PM
OPEning night - doors open from 7:15pm
Jay Katz on the decks with those 70s hits
Synopsis:
Semi-autobiographical coming of age story set in the horror show of northern beaches fashion disasters of the 1970’s as the kids set fire to themselves, the parents swap keys and a 200 ton whale washes up on the beach. A tsunami of Australian imagery and attitudes that looks like the inhabitants of another planet having a day at the beach.
Notes:
Stephan Elliott’s previous film Priscilla Queen of the Desert was a smash hit around the world. Swinging Safari has the same qualities of humanity that reach out to us an audience touching us with his wry humour but ultimately his love of people and our culture.
Reviews:
“As he did so winningly in "Priscilla" … Elliott celebrates Australian identity with genuine love while simultaneously roasting it over the coals of no-holds-barred satire and parody”. Richard Kuipers, Variety
“… a full-throttle 90 minutes of sensory overload on '70s interiors and heinous fashion”. Stephen Russell New Daily
“…the sheer energy of it all is contagious, propulsive, and fun.” CJ Johnson Film Mafia
Followed by Q & A with Producer Al Clark and Director Stephan Elliott (live via telecast)
