Starstruck

Sunday October 8th 10:00am

Synopsis:

The girl just wants to be a star. The trials and tribulations of Jackie Mullins on her way to the top with the help of her scheming cousin and manager , 14 year old Angus. Australia’s most fun musical.

Notes:

Brace yourself for a radiant surprise “Starstruck”. No sweet nostalgia here. Gillian Armstrong’s much underrated satire was a brreakthrough in 1982. Written by Stephen Maclean who incorporated elements of his own working class Melbourne family with his acute observations of the music scene as a journalist of Go Set magazine this is a breath of fresh air, uninhibited and joyful.

Reviews:

"Gillian Armstrong’s STARSTRUCK is a brilliant bombshell of a film, perhaps the first satire thrown up by Australian cinema’s New Wave." Neil Jillett The Age 12|4|1982

The last film with music to leave an audience filled with this much pure happiness and with a combination of affection and protectiveness toward its stars was "A Hard Days Night”
